Olaf Holzapfel
Olaf Holzapfel, born in Dresden in 1967, now lives and works in Berlin and southern Brandenburg. After studying painting at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (1996–2001), he spent a semester at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, India, where he worked under Singanapali Balaram from 2001 to 2002. In 2003, he was artist in residence in the master's program at Columbia University in New York.
In the years that followed, Holzapfel took on numerous teaching assignments, including at HISK in Ghent, the Sint-Lukas School of Arts in Brussels, the FHNW Academy of Art and Design in Basel, the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, the Protestant University of Applied Sciences in Bochum, the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel, the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, and the HfBK Hamburg.
His work has been exhibited internationally on numerous occasions. Significant milestones include documenta 14 in 2017 and the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011.
