Open Galleries
Look forward to exploring a variety of realms and genres: There are young, international, queer perspectives from Frankfurt; key figures in recent German art history are featured; and paintings from the major German art academies in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and Leipzig are on display. The exhibition also showcases works from around the world, including Seoul, Paris, Milan, and London.

Art Walks
A total of 30 Art Walks offer a great introduction to the multifaceted exhibition program, which is spread across five city districts. Eight experienced art educators provide fascinating insights into selected galleries and off-spaces during guided tours through the Innenstadt, Ostend, Sachsenhausen, the Bahnhofsviertel, Westend , and Nordend.

Art.Street.Concerts
A new feature this year is the “Art. Street. Concerts” series, curated by British-German jazz musician Timothy Roth. On opening night, September 4, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., the composer drei will stage unique open-air concerts at the gallery centers Altstadt, Innenstadt , and Westend. The musical spectrum ranges from classical music blended with electro beats to live funky jazzy groove music and improvised electro.

On Friday, September 4, the weekend kicks off at 6 p.m. with a joint opening night. On Saturday and Sunday, the participating galleries, off-spaces, and art institutions will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
Some art venues are already hosting opening events on Thursday evening. You can find the specific times on the websites of the participating venues.
The Art Walks take place on Saturday and Sunday at various times. This allows you Exhibitions several guided tours with visits to the galleries and Exhibitions . The exact start times are listed for each walk.

When does the Frankfurt galleries' Saisonstart ?
The Saisonstart 2026 will take place from September 4 to 6—traditionally on the first weekend after the Hessian summer break. Drei For three days, 50 galleries, off-spaces, and art institutions in Frankfurt will open their doors simultaneously to showcase new Exhibitions.
What is the Saisonstart anyway?
The Frankfurt Galleries’ “ Saisonstart ” is the major joint opening weekend following the summer break—and has been since 1994. For the 32nd time, 35 galleries, 10 off-spaces, and 3 institutions are simultaneously presenting their new “ Exhibitions.” It is the premier event for contemporary art in Frankfurt—open to collectors, art enthusiasts, and the curious.
Is the Saisonstart free of charge?
Yes—admission is free! All participating galleries, off-spaces, and art institutions offer free admission to their Exhibitions. Visitors can experience high-quality, curated art without paying an admission fee—making contemporary art accessible to everyone. The guided art walks have a participation fee of 12 euros, or 8 euros for those eligible for a discount.

The Saisonstart of the Frankfurt Galleries 2026 will take place from September 4 to 6. The opening hours are as follows:

Yes. The 30 Art Walks offer a curated look at the galleries, alternative spaces, art associations, and Exhibitions in Frankfurt’s neighborhoods of Altstadt, Innenstadt, Sachsenhausen, Bahnhofsviertel, Westend , and Nordend.
Are Walks also available in English?
Yes! The popular ArtWalks are held in both German and English. They offer a guided tour of selected galleries or institutions. Of course, German-speaking visitors are also welcome to join the English-language tours.
Which art genres are represented at the Saisonstart ?
The spectrum ranges from painting, sculpture, photography and installations to printing techniques, video and conceptual art. Many galleries show both established positions and up-and-coming young artists from renowned art academies.
How many galleries are there in Frankfurt?
According to the Frankfurt Gallery Report 2024, there are 47 active galleries in Frankfurt, spread across various neighborhoods such as Innenstadt, Westend, Nordend, Bahnhofsviertel, Gallus, and Sachsenhausen. Thirty-five galleries are participating in the 32nd Saisonstart .
