WOLFSTÆDTER

Benjamin Patterson, Max Pauer

Benjamin Patterson (* May 29, 1934 in Pittsburgh, † June 25, 2016 in Wiesbaden) was one of the great artists of Fluxus.
I accompanied him in his life for more than 30 years and got to know and exhibit his work, so Patterson became not only an artist for me, but also a companion and good friend.
Benjamin lived and worked in accordance with the Fluxus motto (formulated by Emmett Williams) "Life is a work of art and the work of art is life."
The gallery is now showing his little-known two-dimensional works on paper at the start of the season: a selection of his collages and photographs.
The Frankfurt artist Max Pauer photographed several of Patterson's last performances; these photographs go far beyond documentation and can be seen as works of art in their own right. A short film, edited by Gunter Deller and shown for the first time, allows viewers to immerse themselves in the interactive performance that Benjamin Patterson carried out on February 6, 2009 in the former gallery space in Fahrgasse.
