Photographic art in Frankfurt

Frankfurt is traditionally strongly anchored in photographic art. Back in the 1990s, when photography was not yet perceived as an art form to be taken seriously in Germany (unlike in the USA), Peter Weiermair at the Frankfurter Kunstverein, Jean-Christophe Ammann at the MMK and the DZ Bank Art Foundation laid the foundations for important collections and exhibitions.

In the latter, 30 works by a total of 24 artists are on display. The exhibition "Earth. Interwoven Life" takes visitors on an exploratory journey into the world of bacteria and fungi, plants, trees and the forces of nature. Works of art from the collection of DZ BANK show the interconnectedness of things and question the role of man in nature.

The former Dresdner Bank skyscraper in turn forms the motif of a financial institution. It was built in 1978 and was the tallest building in Germany at the time at 166 meters. After the takeover by Commerzbank in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, the building stood empty for a short time. It was during this time that Matthias Hoch's group of works "Silver Tower" was created: an exploration of the empty space in search of the legacy of the liquidated Dresdner Bank. The photographs are on display for the first time at the start of the season in Frankfurt at Jacky Strenz until October 30.

Further photo exhibitions await visitors at Galerie Wilma Tolksdorf (Laurens Berges), at the 1822 Forum of Frankfurter Sparkasse (Verdiana Albano) and, as already mentioned, at Galerie-Peter-Sillem (Frank Mädler).
