When does the Frankfurt galleries' Saisonstart ?

The Saisonstart 2025 takes place from September 5 to 7 - traditionally on the first weekend after the Hessian summer vacation. For three days, over 60 galleries, offspaces and art institutions in Frankfurt will open their doors simultaneously and show new Exhibitions.

What is the Saisonstart anyway?

The Saisonstart for Frankfurt's galleries is the big joint opening weekend after the summer break - and has been since 1994. For the 31st time, around 40 galleries and around 21 offspaces and institutions present their new Exhibitions at the same time. It is the central event for contemporary art in Frankfurt - open to collectors, art enthusiasts and the curious.

Is the Saisonstart free of charge?

Yes - admission is free! All participating galleries, offspaces and art institutions offer free access to their Exhibitions. Visitors can experience high-quality, curated art without paying admission - low-threshold access to contemporary art for everyone.

At what times does the Saisonstart ?

The Saisonstart of the Frankfurt Galleries 2025 will take place from September 5 to 7. The opening hours are as follows:

  • Friday, September 5: from 6 p.m. - joint opening evening
    Some galleries will open their doors on Thursday, September 4 - find out more directly on the respective gallery pages.

  • Saturday, September 6: 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

  • Sunday, September 7: 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Are there guided tours during the start of the season?

Yes, the 40 Art Walks provide a curated look at the galleries, offspaces, art associations and Exhibitions in the Frankfurt districts of Innenstadt, Ostend, Sachsenhausen, Bahnhofsviertel, Westend and Nordend.

Are Walks also available in English?

Yes, the popular Art Walks are held in German and also in English. They offer a guided tour through selected galleries or institutions. Of course, German-speaking visitors are also welcome on the English tours.

Which art genres are represented at the Saisonstart ?

The spectrum ranges from painting, sculpture, photography and installations to printing techniques, video and conceptual art. Many galleries show both established positions and up-and-coming young artists from renowned art academies.

How many galleries are there in Frankfurt?

According to the Frankfurt Gallery Report 2024, there are 47 active galleries in Frankfurt, spread across various districts such as Innenstadt, Westend, Nordend, Bahnhofsviertel, Gallus and Sachsenhausen. 40 galleries are taking part in the 31st Saisonstart .
