Andreas Slominski

Andreas Slominski, born in Meppen in 1959, now lives and works in Werder an der Havel. He has been a professor at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg since 2004. Slominski has received numerous awards for his artistic work, including the Karl Ströher Prize (1991, Frankfurt am Main), the Edwin Scharff Prize (1998, Hamburg), the Hannah Höch Prize (2013, Berlin), and the Lichtwark Prize (2014, Hamburg).

His work has been presented in numerous renowned institutions. His early solo exhibitions include the Kabinett für aktuelle Kunst in Bremerhaven (1991) and the exhibition Fallen at the Hamburger Kunsthalle (1995). This was followed by presentations at the Bonnefantenmuseum Maastricht (1997), the Kunsthalle Zürich (1998), and the Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin (1999). In 2003, the Fondazione Prada in Milan dedicated a comprehensive exhibition to him, and in 2005, the Serpentine Gallery in London showed his work.

In the following years, Slominski's work was exhibited at the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt am Main (2006), Metro Pictures in New York (2006, 2012, 2018), and the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens in Deurle (2012), among others. Significant Exhibitions also Exhibitions at the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (2013), the Kunsthalle Bremen (2013), the Galerie Bärbel Grässlin in Frankfurt am Main (several times since 2014), the Haubrok Foundation in Berlin (2014), the Deichtorhallen Hamburg (2016), and at Thaddaeus Ropac in Salzburg (2016, 2021).

Other venues for his solo exhibitions included Proyectos Monclova in Mexico City (2016), the Salzburg Foundation (2016), Galerie Neu in Berlin (2017), Museum Jorn in Silkeborg, Denmark (2017), Gerhardsen Gerner in Oslo (2017), and the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen (2022).

In 2024, the Museum Folkwang in Essen will present Slominski's exhibition Wohnorte gegen Geburtsorte(Places of Residence versus Places of Birth), which focuses on his latest work.
