We cordially invite you to the first solo exhibition of the young artist Janosch Dannemann at the Saisonstart this year's Frankfurt Galleries Saisonstart on the occasion of the Frankfurt Art Experience. Dannemann [*1992 in Oldenburg] studied from 2015 to 2021 at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig under Professor Annette Schröter, graduating with a diploma. He then completed his master class at the HGB Leipzig under Professor Christian Weihrauch, graduating in September 2024.
Janosch Dannemann lives and works in Leipzig. Janosch Dannemann works exclusively on paper. His drawings are primarily the result of improvisation: a game of action and reaction between the artistic decision, its mistakes and their inevitable influence on all decisions that follow. Every sketch is invalid, instead the motifs develop from an abstract background to a miniature stage and gradually fill up with a small, motionless spectacle. Dannemann combines meticulously elaborated details with the aura of the imaginary - realism and abstraction merge into form, color and emotion.
The sheets leave plenty of room for individual narratives. People or animals are not always visible, but the presence of their traces enlivens the interiors and landscapes and reveals the fleeting nature of the moment. Dannemann transforms drawings into paintings. He paints and treats thick paper with colored pencils. The colors are applied, rubbed and massaged in, then scraped off again, sanded and brushed. These processes are repeated layer by layer. The interplay of light and shadow results in a sensitive color palette and the dissolution of formal boundaries that go beyond familiar images and symmetrical formats. All of this is based on a fascination with the drawn line and the paper that supports it - regardless of whether it was constructed with experienced precision or torn out with a child's clenched hand. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog.
