continuo
Bernhard Knaus Fine Art

In the exhibition *continuo*, Giacomo Santiago Rogado presents works from the series *Intuition*, *Coalescence*, *Accord*, and *Calibra*. The title refers to the idea of a continuum—a state of continuity in which the world does not appear as a collection of separate things, but rather as a network of relationships, transitions, and mutual interactions. This concept forms the starting point of the exhibition: the question of how painting can make visible those connections that elude immediate articulation.
The bringing together of different series of works offers insight into the complexity of Rogado’s artistic practice. Although the works originate from different contexts, they enter into a shared dialogue within the exhibition. This reveals not only the distinctive characteristics of the individual series but also the unifying questions that have shaped Rogado’s work for years. The exhibition focuses on what emerges between the images: relationships, recurrences, and shifts that are not apparent at first glance but gradually unfold as one views the works.

Rogado’s painting deliberately operates within the realm of abstraction. Paradoxically, it is precisely this detachment from concrete objects that gives rise to a special form of connection. The works forgo unambiguous references and instead open up pictorial spaces that elude immediate definition. Floating forms, concentrated swaths of color, and transparent layering evoke associations without ever fully confirming them. Echoes of both elemental and cosmic manifestations interrelate, creating pictorial constellations that defy definitive interpretation. Their openness allows different perceptions to coexist without reducing them to a fixed meaning.

For “continuo,” the exhibition spaces are conceived as a cohesive experiential space. The individual works do not appear as self-contained units, but as parts of a larger context. Every form, every color scheme, and every spatial constellation points beyond itself and relates to the other works. Perception is understood not as a momentary grasp but as a process that unfolds over time. The exhibition invites visitors to let their gaze wander and to perceive connections that are based less on certainties than on resonance.

In a present characterized by visual saturation and constant availability, Rogado’s work takes a different path. His painting does not seek an immediate impact, but rather a concentrated experience. Through subtle color relationships, transparent overlays, and a persistent search for depth, pictorial spaces emerge that reveal themselves slowly. They do not demand attention but meet the viewer with a reserved openness. Therein lies their special quality: they do not suggest what should be seen, but rather open up the possibility of seeing differently.

continuo understands perception as an ongoing process that is never fully complete. The works do not provide answers. They open up a space in which the visible and the imaginable, the familiar and the indeterminate, enter into a relationship with one another. This gives rise to a quiet dialogue between the image and the viewer, in which meaning is not fixed but is constantly being redefined.
