Starting May 24, 2025, Frankfurt’s Westend will present an exhibition titled PHÄNOMEN FARBE, featuring recent works by Luca Lombardi, Elisa Nepote, and Silvia Rosa. The drei of the Brera Academy of Fine Arts (Milan) first exhibited their works in Frankfurt in September 2024 as part of the group exhibition “Sguardi/Blicke III.” The exhibition brings together artistic approaches that view color not only as a creative tool but also as a vehicle for expressing emotion, structure, and perception, and that engage with the medium of color in very different ways.
In his Swipe series of works, Luca Lombardi explores the gesture of digital swiping as a visual language consisting of a constant sequence of actions that seemingly have no form. Through the layering of colors, the vector forms of the digital print combine with each other in his paintings and accumulate on the picture surface, where they shift and overlap each other and create new colors.
Elisa Nepote's work is dedicated to examining the color blue with a particular focus on its symbolic, philosophical and magical dimensions, with which this color has been associated since antiquity and where it was linked to the divine and the transcendent. Based on historical pigments such as azurite, malachite and lapis lazuli, she develops a modern "cosmogony of blue" on her canvases.
Silvia Rosa uses color as a medium of change and narrative. In her works, colorful fragments of heterogeneous objects are superimposed to create scenarios between landscape and artificiality. Color becomes the connecting element that creates transitions between reality, symbolism and imagination. This creates variable, multi-layered pictorial spaces in which the solid and the ephemeral, the real and the fantastic collide.
With the exhibition *PHÄNOMEN FARBE*, the Westend invites visitors to rediscover color as a means of artistic expression—not only as a visual experience, but as a vehicle for concepts, emotions, and ideas—as a central element of contemporary art that extends far beyond mere aesthetics.
