To grasp an image penetratingly requires discipline. A trained eye is no accident - it is acquired, based on reason and knowledge. While the eye and mind struggle to understand, the heart is allowed to remain open. Alissa Walser's life and work reflect her deep passion for literature and painting.

The exhibition title - the last lines of Shakespeare's sonnet CXL - refers to this with a subtle gesture. Her painting is abstract, borne by a sober clarity. Distinct brushstrokes and tangible forms contrast with multi-layered structures and oscillating planes. Nevertheless, her works defy unambiguous legibility - they demand attentive viewing, invite us to pause, to ask questions, to feel.
