KARL KNEIDL (FRANZISKA KNEIDL)

22.06.2024 - 20.09.2025
A SPACE FOR KARL KNEIDL (CREATED BY FRANZISKA KNEIDL)
Kai Middendorff Gallery

The gallery is dedicating a special exhibition to the renowned stage designer, who has worked with directorial legends such as Pina Bausch, Matthias Langhoff, Hans Neuenfels, Heiner Müller, Peter Zadek and many others.

At the center of the exhibition is Karl Kneidl's unorthodox, 272-page monograph, which will be published in May. Kneidl has succeeded in creating an artist's book that reflects his attitude as a stage designer. Instead of sticking to the chronology of his rich stage life, he focuses on central materials and materials that he has repeatedly used in new and surprising ways in his stage spaces. To this end, he brings a wealth of sketches, photos, texts, commentaries and letters. He follows the alphabet, starting with A (with the cars on his stages) and ending with W (with the wind).

With the painting FENSTER (FÜR P. ZADEK UND K. KNEIDL, 2025), Franziska Kneidl refers to the Kirschgarten production at the Burgtheater Vienna by Peter Zadek (production) and Karl Kneidl (stage).

The painting-objects refer to the last production of WAS IHR WOLLT planned by Peter Zadek (production) and Karl Kneidl (stage), which was no longer staged due to the death of Peter Zadek. Karl Kneidl has planned a hanging object.
Karl Kneidl will be present at the Saisonstart .
