Everywhere and Now Here
Galerie Hübner + Hübner
Cornelius Annor’s works are not only exhibited internationally today, but are also part of major museum collections such as those of the Brooklyn Museum in New York and the Norton Museum of Art in Florida. Through his works, which explore themes of memory, family, and photographic archives, he has made a name for himself internationally in recent years.
On Friday, June 19, die Galerie + Hübner will open its solo exhibition*Everywhere and Now Here*.The Ghanaian artist will be present in person at the opening in Frankfurt and will offer insights into his artistic practice and the creation of the works on display during an artist talk.
In *Everywhere and Now Here*, Cornelius Annor explores the complex interconnections between memory, identity, and belonging. His work draws on photographs from family albums as well as images circulating within the Black diaspora. From these sources, he creates paintings that depict social gatherings, family relationships, and interiors, interweaving different temporal planes.
The exhibition features ten new works in which Annor combines acrylic painting with African textiles, fabric transfer, and collage. The fabric transfer process, in particular, plays a central role: as patterns are transferred from one surface to another, they lose their color intensity. This process reflects the way memories fade and change over time, yet still leave their mark.
What is new about the works on display is the close connection between figurative motifs and textile patterns. Through layering and image transfers, figures, objects, and fabric designs merge into a single visual plane. The subdued color palette reinforces the impression of past, lived experiences.
The titles of these works refer to the names of the fabric patterns used and open up additional layers of meaning. For example, the work *Okunu Pa* (“Good Husband”) shares its name with the textile design depicted and simultaneously frames the scene of a father with his child.
Through the interplay of fabric and color, the boundaries between personal memory and collective history, between the present and the past, become blurred. Everywhere and Now Here invites viewers to reflect on their own relationship to time, origin, and belonging.
