FABRIZIO PLESSI
DIE GALERIE
DIE GALERIE is presenting works by Fabrizio Plessi for the first time. Born in Reggio Emilia in 1940, the artist—a “Venetian by choice”—is considered one of the most important international pioneers of video art, alongside Nam June Paik, Bruce Nauman, and Valie Export. Since the 1970s, the element of water has been at the center of his body of work: as a metaphor for the origin of all life, for the flow of time, consciousness, and human memory. Over the course of his artistic career, which now spans more than 50 years, he has explored this subject from a wide variety of perspectives. The exhibition at DIE GALERIE focuses on the SPLASH series, created around 2019, which combines the perfection of modern video technology with the timeless, meditative aesthetics of moving water.
I’m looking everywhere for traces of Fabrizio; I’m looking for his scent; I’m looking for a note with a little love message; I’m looking for him among the objects scattered around the house. Above all, though, I’m searching for his genius, which had become part of my everyday life—something so natural that I accepted it without a second thought—in a fusion of art and life that was a single breath.
Nothing speaks more eloquently of his art, his vision, his dreams, and his obsessions than his writings.
Just a few lines to remember a man who never held back, who never took the easy way out, who lived his life with total dedication:
"Painting is physical; sculpture is even more physical;
In the digital world, the materiality of content in pixels is much closer to the mind, so that it becomes a form,
that opens unexpected doors for you.
When the light streams in through these doors,
I immerse myself in it and try to capture the radiance of the thought
"to take it in."
