Anna Oppermann
Saas-Fee Pavilion
The exhibition at the saasfee*pavillon situates the work of German conceptual and documentary artist Anna Oppermann at the intersection of art and design, demonstrating how her ensembles can serve as models for a critical, reflective design practice.
In today’s world, where design is increasingly understood as a means of problem-solving and communication, Oppermann’s critical perspective offers valuable insights. In her multifaceted, expansive ensembles, Oppermann consistently challenged social, political, and visual orders.
In *Das Blaue vom Himmel*, the Saas-Fee* Pavilion presents Oppermann’s ensembles as open communication systems that reveal their working methods as a social and reflective process. Their interdisciplinary didactic approach combined art and theory. They presented their ensemble method as a tool for critical reflection on design and communication and as an alternative to linear, prescriptive design practices.
The exhibition centers on two series—one from her early work and one from her later work—in which Anna Oppermann explores the relationship between design and communication.
The exhibition also features paintings and drawings from the early career of this internationally renowned artist, who passed away in 1993 and whose work has not been shown in Frankfurt since then.
Guided tours and lectures are offered as part of the exhibition.
Hours of operation are Saturdays and Sundays, 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and by prior appointment.
