Familiar Nature, Unfamiliar Spaces

Landscape can seem familiar and yet unsettling at the same time. In “Terrain,” two painterly approaches come together, each addressing this tension in its own way. From October 16 to November 20, 2026, die Galerie Hübner + Hübner will present works by Salomé Berger and Mona Pourebrahim. The exhibition was curated by Wolfgang Hambrecht.

Salomé Berger uses landscapes and plant structures as the starting point for her paintings. Overpainting and angular swaths of color interrupt the natural motifs, obscuring some areas while bringing others to the fore. The viewer’s gaze finds points of reference and then loses them again. The artist is also drawn to broken branches, exposed roots, and withering plants—motifs in which the transience of nature is already evident.

Mona Pourebrahim describes her works as “landscapes of the soul.” Through the interplay of color, light, and perspective, she creates spaces that can evoke feelings such as loneliness, restlessness, or hope. At the same time, her painting remains connected to the outside world. She also explores landscapes that transform, exploit, or destroy people. By bringing these two perspectives together, “Terrain” opens our eyes to landscape as a place where external changes and internal experiences intersect.
