Fedele Spadafora

March 13, 2026 – April 18, 2026
The stories between
Galerie Leuenroth

In his paintings, Fedele Spadafora reflects the urban reality of New York in all its infinite diversity, shifting effortlessly between portraiture, landscape, and still life. A fleeting glance at a restaurant server, the set table at the Chinese restaurant around the corner, or the rain-soaked streets of Brooklyn; weary subway passengers; strangers or friends; street scenes and interiors—snapshots from the immediate surroundings of the artist’s living and working environment become remarkable subjects of his paintings. The attention to detail in the painterly rendering stands in a striking contrast to the seemingly casually observed motifs. With lively brushstrokes and atmospheric lighting, he creates narratives that are both concrete and suggestive. Spadafora describes his technique as follows: “I create each painting by using forms abstractly and refining them until figures and landscapes take shape and appear real.” Work stays in Tunisia have made his color palette increasingly vibrant.

Fedele Spadafora [born 1968 in Lansing, Michigan, USA] earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1990. He then lived and worked in Prague as an artist and illustrator until 1998, serving as co-founder and creative director of Twisted Spoon Press. Back in the United States, he studied painting under Nelson Shanks at the Arts Students League of New York. Exhibitions the U.S., Europe, and North Africa followed. His works can be found in numerous public and private collections in those regions. Fedele Spadafora lives and works in New York, Paris, and Hammamet.
