In Divenire | In the Making

60 Years of Contemporary Art in the German-Italian Context: To mark its anniversary, Frankfurt’s Westend Galerie is presenting an exhibition featuring four young talents from Italy to Saisonstart Frankfurt’s Saisonstart . *Divenire | Im Werden* brings together artistic practices that engage in various ways with processes of change, perception, and relationship. They navigate the spectrum between visibility and dissolution, humanity and the environment, memory and projection. At the center of the works on display are the body, the image, and space, which do not appear as fixed or completed states, but rather as elements of a continuous process of becoming. Transitions are evident not only thematically but also formally: in dissolved contours, in monochromatic condensations, in subtle gestural traces, or in superimposed layers of images and media. Painting and drawing processes interact with one another and themselves become vehicles for this transformation.

In a social context marked by fragmentation, uprooting, and a progressive loss of connection, Diana Lupascu’s work is based on the idea that nothing can exist as an isolated entity. In her paintings, this is reflected in multi-layered and fluid surfaces. Massimo Pugliese explores the fragile, unstable relationship between humans and nature, drawing inspiration from sinopias (red chalk sketches). In often monochromatic works with a rough, relief-like texture, he sketches human figures and landscapes that interact, overlap, or displace one another. On canvas or found textiles, Silvia Trampus creates a web of bodies and objects that reflect the sensuality and chaos of the world. The interplay between the painting and the pattern of the substrate gives rise to a visual and thematic interplay that challenges the eye. Alice Zeni’s painting is grounded in a reflection on sensory experience. The picture planes in her work are force fields in which blue matter spreads like ink in water. Here, the color blue operates with its numerous metaphorical layers of meaning.

Diana Lupascu and Alice Zeni are students at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera; Silvia Trampus and Massimo Pugliese graduated from there in 2025. The exhibition *In Divenire | Im Werden* is curated in collaboration with Prof. Marco Casentini.
