The exhibition focuses on his most recent series of works, in which he specifically explores the feet of animals—a body part that rarely receives attention in art. In just over two years, he has created more than 30 fragments: meticulously crafted animal feet that appear to be studies of nature only at first glance. Upon closer inspection, however, Zaubitzer’s imagination and humor come to the fore.
Through these works, he pushes the boundaries of the surreal, thereby revealing to the viewer not only the contrast between nature and alienation, but also between cuteness and monstrosity, between seriousness and humor. There are no differences in size or color among the various feet. All the works, made of simply fired clay, are based on a basic form—whether hooves, paws, or toes. Arranged in a winding sequence, the ceramic animal feet stretch for about ten meters, winding their way through the Goldstein Gallery’s exhibition space starting July 31, like a procession of creatures.
