Whiteout
Galerie Hübner + Hübner

In Katja Jüttemann's new exhibition, a weather phenomenon becomes a parable of seeing. We speak of a whiteout when snow and fog combine in extreme weather in the polar region or in the high mountains to such an extent that the horizon is so white that it is impossible to see. This condition often takes away your sense of orientation. You can see the white and otherwise only shadowy outlines of your surroundings. This creates a feeling of being in an endless, empty space. For Katja Jüttemann, this state is more than just a meteorological event - it is an example of how we perceive the world. The brain often assembles fragmented and blurred images from the incomplete and fragmentary. Katja Jüttemann's new works, which are characterized by a partially impenetrable white, implement this phenomenon photographically, painterly and graphically. The artist works with blurs, blurs contours and challenges the eye to focus on the essentials. She uses sections of snow-covered landscapes and details of shrubs and plants as her motifs. As you look at them, you not only immerse yourself in the beauty of the landscapes, but also experience how your clear view is taken away. You involuntarily fill in the gaps and ask yourself what is real and what is imagined. These images stimulate the imagination, take the imagination beyond what is seen and thus open up the world beyond.
