SWEETS and PARADISE
Bernhard Knaus Fine Art
Die Galerie Knaus Fine Art Die Galerie is pleased to present the exhibition "SWEETS and PARADISE" featuring new photographic works by Ralf Peters from September 6 to November 22, 2025. We cordially invite you to join us for the opening reception on September 5, which marks the start of the season for Frankfurt galleries as part of the Frankfurt Art Experience.
Ralf Peters is one of the most important representatives of conceptual photography in Germany. In his works, he stages everyday objects, places and landscapes in a new, often irritating light. The motifs, reduced to their essentials, are abstracted through digital processing in such a way that they lead to the border between reality and staging. Peters encourages viewers to question what they see and to critically reflect on their own perception.
The exhibition combines two current series of works that deal in different ways with the motif of paradise and the perception of reality. In the "SWEETS" series, Peters focuses on inconspicuous views of nature such as branches, leaves and foliage and stages them against bright, mostly blue backgrounds. Digital processing creates pictorial spaces that oscillate between real depictions of nature and artificial constructions, thus questioning the boundaries of photographic reality.
The "Paradise" series of works expands this approach to include AI-generated visual worlds: Peters creates visionary gardens and buildings inspired by religious and cultural ideas of paradise. The works address universal longings for peace, harmony and bliss, but at the same time question how desirable an artificially perfected paradise really is. The exhibition title "SWEETS and PARADISE" refers to the ambivalence between natural beauty and digital perfection. Both series engage in an exciting dialog and invite visitors to critically reflect on their own perception and the role of digital media in contemporary photography.
Die Galerie Knaus Fine Art Die Galerie , which has specialized in contemporary photography, drawing, and painting for many years, once again presents an artistic position that reflects fundamental questions of perception and experience in our time. Ralf Peters lives and works near Hamburg. After studying at the Braunschweig University of Art, the École des Beaux Arts in Nîmes, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, he has devoted himself to photography and digital image montage since the late 1990s. His works have been exhibited internationally and published extensively.
