Between Memory and the Present: New Visual Worlds of Representational Painting
E30 Gallery

From September 5, the E30 Gallery presents an extraordinary encounter of contemporary painting as part of the start of the Frankfurt gallery season. In their current works, Klara Landwehr and Noah Kauertz lead us into multi-layered visual worlds that redefine the relationship between time, space and memory.

Klara Landwehr develops a fascinating practice of transformation in her latest works. Starting from carefully composed collages of small paintings, sketches and colored papers - a kind of personal library of visual memories - she creates landscape-like compositions of atmospheric density. Born in Haan in 1987, the artist, a master student of Eberhard Havekost and pupil of Markus Lüpertz at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, translates these collaged visual worlds into reduced oil paintings in which construction and intuition enter into an exciting synthesis. Her works are invitations into imaginary spaces - calm, multi-layered and full of surprising breaks that entice the eye to discover.

Noah Kauertz brings a different form of temporality into play with his studio views, among other things. The artist, who was born in India in 1993 and studied as a master student of Andreas Orosz at Alanus University, creates paintings that function like visual diaries. He sometimes paints himself in his studio, repaints parts, integrates previously created paintings and elements collected over time into the picture. The results are works that unite movement and stasis, growth and decay in a single pictorial plane - stage-like compositions that cast a spell over the viewer.

The artist and Landwehr share a special sensitivity for the processual aspect of painting. While Landwehr finds the synthesis of the painted from the fragmentation of the collaged, Kauertz documents the painting process itself as the subject of his art. The works of both artists speak a common language of time layering - they make visible what normally remains hidden: the history of creation, the traces of reflection, the poetry of the unfinished.

The exhibition at the E30 Gallery in Frankfurt's Nordend district offers a rare opportunity to experience two positions in contemporary figurative painting that combine traditional pictorial narrative with conceptual sophistication - authentic, intellectually sophisticated and emotionally moving.
