A (high) house of galleries invites you to Frankfurt

The 'House of Galleries' will be the yearly kick-off for contemporary art in the Main metropolis from January 24 to 26, 2025. 26 galleries from Frankfurt and all over Germany will take up residence on floors 43 and 44 of the TRIANON high-rise. This will finally give Frankfurt as an art location a long-awaited supra-regional format that brings together leading galleries from the city and beyond. 'House of Galleries' is a project of The Frankfurt Art Experience, which is supported by the Hessian Ministry of Economics. The international specialist insurer Hiscox, which also has a particular reputation as an art insurer, has been secured as a program partner.

Art experience on the former executive floors

The history of the long-standing anchor tenant is still omnipresent on the former executive floors high up in the TRIANON: a prestigious entrance, a banquet hall and spacious conference rooms high above Frankfurt's street canyons at eye level with the surrounding skyscrapers, the unique skyline in Germany. 26 galleries from all over Germany will present their artistic positions here on the penultimate weekend of January in just as many solo exhibitions. "With the 'House of Galleries', the exciting art scene presents itself in the middle of Frankfurt's banking district. This fits in very well with its international orientation and is a signal of new beginnings for the exciting Hessian art market, which is constantly breaking new ground," says Rolf Krämer, Head of Division at the Hessian Ministry of Economics.

Galleries from Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg as guests in Frankfurt

The Frankfurt galleries are the hosts in the 'House of Galleries'. They were each invited to invite a partner gallery from their network. For example, Galerie Bärbel Grässlin has invited Galerie Meyer Riegger, which has locations in Berlin, Karlsruhe, Basel and Seoul, to be its guest at TRIANON. FILIALE, on the other hand, has found what it is looking for with Fiebach Minninger in Cologne. Galerie Heike Strelow has found a partner in Stuttgart's Galerie Thomas Fuchs, while Kai Middendorff has found a partner in Berlin's renowned Galerie Klemm's. Peter Sillem's choice of partner also comes from the capital: like Sillem, Galerie Springer focuses on classical and contemporary photography. With Patrick Heide Contemporary Art, a gallery from London is also present at the invitation of Bernhard Knaus Fine Art. "We will only be recognized as a gallery and art location if we open up. We galleries are very well networked and attend numerous fairs throughout Europe. Now it's time for people to come and visit us in our home city of Frankfurt," says gallery owner Anita Beckers. Arne Linde from the ASPN Gallery in Leipzig has accepted her invitation. Galleries from the cities of Berlin, Bonn, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Cologne, Munich, Leipzig, London and Stuttgart are represented.

'House of Galleries' was developed together with Frankfurt galleries

The Frankfurt Art Experience has been the official presentation platform for Frankfurt's galleries for over six years. The concept for the 'House of Galleries' was developed together with twelve galleries in numerous workshops and meetings. At the same time, the three-part discussion series 'Talk of Galleries' provided a discursive basis on which the needs of Frankfurt as a gallery location, best practice examples from Munich and Berlin as well as various perspectives from art academies, museum institutions and politics were identified. In addition, a representative study on Frankfurt as a gallery location entitled Frankfurt Gallery Report was carried out. In the discussions held and in the study, ideas and wishes were articulated by the galleries as to how the gallery location could be positioned nationally with an innovative art format. A three-member board, consisting of Dr. Sebastian Baden, Director of the SCHIRN KUNSTHALLE, Prof. Dr. Brigitte Franzen, the new Director of the Offenbach University of Art and Design, and Silke Hohmann, author and editor at Monopol magazine, is supporting the project as a content and curatorial sparring partner.

The host house TRIANON

The TRIANON, built in 1993, is one of the ten tallest buildings in Germany and impresses with its combination of large triangular surfaces. The architectural distinguishing feature is the diamond, an inverted glass pyramid that adorns the roof of the central part of the building. Starting with a LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, which focuses on energy efficiency, the TRIANON has a WiredScore Platinum certification, which certifies that the office tower has the best connectivity and full transparency in terms of digital infrastructure. In addition, a DGNB Platinum certification for buildings in operation was achieved, which is the highest award of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and certifies demonstrably sustainable building operation at the highest level. In terms of the overall degree of fulfillment achieved, the TRIANON was one of the 10 projects with the best certification result ever achieved among all projects that have received a DGNB certificate for buildings in operation to date.

The insolvency administrator of the office tower, Dr. Stephan Laubereau from PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH, has made the two upper, high-quality former executive floors available to the House of Galleries for temporary use. The organizers would particularly like to thank Sascha Witt from PLUTA for the successful agreement and trusting cooperation. The organizers are convinced that opening the top of the high-rise building to the public as part of a national art exhibition will be a highlight at the start of the new year.
