Art of the 20th century
The Saisonstart is not just about discoveries in the present. The picture is complemented by Exhibitions that look back to the 20th century. Paintings, drawings and prints reveal an era that laid the foundations for much of what we take for granted today.
In THE GALLERY it is the homage to Pierre Alechinsky and the artists of the CoBrA group, who focus on the expressive potential of color. Gestural, informal, rebellious against traditional forms - the energy with which they sought to escape the torpor after 1945 once again comes to the fore here.
The gallery Jörg Schuhmacher seduces with the group show dessin et passion into the Paris of the 1950s to 1970s. Pablo Picasso and Alexander Calder are among the fixed stars of these years, whose works combine lightness and playful inventiveness, but also seriousness and intensity.
In the Kunstraum Bernusstraße one encounters the graphic work of Werner Tübke. The Leipzig master of post-war modernism remains a multi-layered figure: formally disciplined, yet with a narrative density that is impressively reflected in his prints.
The gallery strikes a completely different note Hanna Bekker vom Rath where the work of the Dresden artist Theodor Rosenhauer (1901-1996) is presented. Over the decades, his late impressionist-realist painting style has developed a quiet independence that defies quick access - and therefore arouses curiosity.
