Kerstin Lichtblau

girl, so confusing
Painting, screen print, eye girl
by Kerstin Lichtblau

Summer of "brat girls" and eye girls - according to the "Urban Dictionary", "brat" describes a person who always gets what they want and doesn't follow any rules. Kerstin Lichtblau captures this rebellious attitude in her colorful and expressive works. Her pictures of the eye girls take us into a world that seems both strange and familiar.
The large eyes are the central focus of her works and lend them a suggestive power, involving the viewer. The pictures hold a mirror up to us, a reciprocal relationship is created, the eye girls look at us and break with the traditional way of looking at art.
They are girls in the transformational stage of growing up who pause for a moment to look at us. They show us a small smile in their mask-like presence, which makes them appear vulnerable and strong at the same time - between confusion, self-assertion and rebellion.
