EBERHARD ROSS
Galerie Heike Strelow
Eberhard Ross views painting as a form of notation and memory. His paintings emerge through a slow, focused process in which color and line are interdependent and interpenetrate. This gives rise to multi-layered, vibrant surfaces that neither depict anything nor make any assertions. Time is at the center: the works feel more like sound than image and invite quiet, attentive viewing. On display are works in oil on canvas, hardboard, and wood, ranging from small, intimate panels to large formats. The title “ataraxia,” the Greek word for peace of mind or imperturbability, refers not to a state but to an attitude: a constant renewal of approach. Ross, born in 1959 in Krefeld, lives in Mülheim an der Ruhr and Frankfurt am Main.
