In the exhibition “Did You Miss Me?”, forms return as if they were reemerging from a slight shift in memory. Anya Triestram continues to explore ornamentation, repetition, and floral forms—familiar patterns are transposed into new visual contexts, reappear, and dissolve into overlapping colors.
Linocuts, resin, and pigmented surfaces create a multi-layered structure of recurring elements and varying color spaces. Individual elements seem to mirror one another. In a strictly minimalist, formal, and abstract composition, simple geometric and organic forms evoke the image of a tulip without explicitly depicting it. A series of these tulips plays a central role in the exhibition. Each of these tulips bears a name derived from Dutch female first names in their diminutive, affectionate forms, which creates a sense of familiarity and closeness.
The exhibition is complemented by pastel drawings in which the patterns developed earlier are once again broken up and fragmented. Flowers growing through these fragments of pattern appear neither entirely naturalistic nor purely ornamental.
All of her works once again emerge from an interplay of technique, material, and content. Through layering and superimposition, Anya Triestram creates a structure in which the abstract and the figurative resonate with one another, mirror each other, or detach from one another.
“Did you miss me?” feels like a quiet question that runs through the exhibition. The works encounter one another like recurring motifs: similar, altered, and yet not the same. Between closeness and distance, ornament and memory, a pictorial space unfolds in which repetition does not signify stagnation, but rather constant movement. Repetition becomes a trace of time, and the persistent reappearance of certain images carries an idea forward.
