Heussenstamm. Space for Art and the City
Katrin Paul’s large-scale installation liberates paper from its historical function as a mere support for drawings and a subservient medium. Paper emerges as an autonomous, space-generating material. Volume is generated from the surface, a volume that not only occupies the space but also structures, permeates, and transforms it. Large-scale installations and fragile wall works form a relational framework of proximity and distance that situationally modulates the viewer’s perception. The works do not define space as a static entity but generate it as a process—alternating between protective enclosure and a condensed spatial structure. Within the precisely balanced interplay of materiality, lighting, and architectural context, a minimalist yet potent field of tension unfolds between interior and exterior, object and environment.
