The exhibition focuses on Frankfurt’s apple wine culture—as a social space, a culture of gathering, and an urban tradition with its own symbols, forms, and rituals.
Familiar elements such as the “Bembel” and “Geripptes,” apple wine and “Handkäs,” ornamentation, and the diamond shape are taken up by the participating artists and serve as the starting point for diverse artistic approaches in painting, drawing, etching, objects, and installations.
Malum = apple. Veritas = truth.
The title links the apple—both as a fruit and a cultural symbol—with the idea of a truth that emerges in a state of intoxication. Drawing on the saying“In vino veritas,” this concept is applied to apple wine—to enjoyment, a sense of freedom, conversation, and social closeness.
In this context, the apple appears not only as the origin of the drink, but also as an ambivalent symbol representingseduction, a misstep, and enlightenment.
