Lucas Foglia

26.04.2025 - 31.05.2025
Constant Bloom
Galerie-Peter-Sillem

For millions of years, ladybird butterflies have been migrating between Africa, the Middle East and Europe in search of wildflowers in bloom. Lucas Foglia has accompanied the butterflies on the longest known butterfly migration to date, spanning Europe, Africa and the Middle East. His photographs trace both the butterflies' route and their encounters with people along the way - as a symbol of our fragile, interconnected yet resilient world.

Lucas Foglia (born 1983) tells stories about people in nature in his large-scale projects with a clear aesthetic that is as nuanced as it is sensitive. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Brown University in 2005 and a Master of Fine Arts from Yale University in 2010. In 2024 he received the Guggenheim Fellowship for his project Constant Bloom

Foglia's photographs are represented in many collections and have been exhibited worldwide, including at the Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, the International Center of Photography, the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Fotomuseum Den Haag, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. He has published six books: A Natural Order (2012), Frontcountry (2014), Human Nature (2017), Summer After (2021), Living on Lava (2025) and Constant Bloom (2025).
