Fragile Permanence
“fragile permanence” showcases an artist whose work is subtle yet compelling: contemplative, material-conscious, and imbued with great aesthetic presence. It is an exhibition about the fragility of nature—and about the possibility of endowing it with permanence. On display are the latest works by an artist who occupies a unique position within the contemporary art world: Hilde Trip works exclusively with materials from nature—feathers, seeds, leaves, flowers, and other organic fragments—which she collects, dries, preserves, and rearranges into precise, poetic compositions.
Her art is neither a classical depiction of nature nor a decorative object. Trip transforms nature itself into artistic material and turns the ephemeral into something enduring. In her works, fragility and control, organic growth and formal clarity, sensual surface and conceptual depth come together. What appears from a distance to be an abstract composition reveals, upon closer inspection, a world of the finest natural structures—an interplay of material, time, and perception.
Hilde Trip thus occupies a unique position at the intersection of art-historical memory and contemporary sensibility. Her works take up the idea of the still life without imitating it: The focus is not on the painted image of nature, but on nature itself, reimagined in terms of rhythm, structure, and form. Trips' work is gaining increasing recognition internationally. Following Schlieder Contemporary's presentation of the artist at Art Toronto in Canada, her art has become more visible outside of Europe; at the same time, her works are included in major private and corporate collections worldwide.
