In dialog: Group exhibitions

Tilmann Zahn creates filigree and massive shapes on firm laid paper, which he then tears out rather than cutting out
(Galerie Maurer).

Group exhibitions have a firm place at the Saisonstart . They bring together different styles, open up dialogues between positions and make visible how themes and materials develop new resonances when they interact.

The show "Much love Anita" at Galerie Anita Beckers is particularly personal this year. It is a tribute to the recently deceased gallery owner and honors a life's work that was closely linked to the promotion of video art. On display are works by artists with whom Anita Beckers was associated for decades. A photo wall commemorates her life and work - a pioneer who will be missed by the Frankfurt scene.

The DER MIXER gallery has a completely different, but equally forceful, focus. Eighty years after the end of the Second World War, the exhibition explores how we deal with war, violence and fear today. Particularly impressive: the works of Ukrainian artist Molly Route, who draws her Wartime Graphics in Kiev and thus brings the immediate experience of threat into the picture.

Galerie Maurer, on the other hand, is dedicated to a medium that appears simple and yet is inexhaustible: paper. Dorthe Goeden, Andreas Kocks and Tilmann Zahn use it in very different ways - as a support, as a material, as a spatial body. The works explore where the boundaries between drawing, relief and object become blurred.

The group exhibitions at the Saisonstart not only show a variety of positions, but also how much art gains from dialog - be it as a memory, as a political statement or as an exploration of a material.
