The title “Sweet Dreaming”—borrowed from a seminal work by the artist Winnie Seifert—opens up a painterly space between waking observation, memory, and daydreaming. The group exhibition brings together four approaches to contemporary painting that explore the transitions between inner states and external reality in very different ways.
Winnie Seifert’s Works combine a playful lightness with a subtle, impulsive precision. On the canvas, colors flow into one another, layers overlap, and delicate lines dissolve into the abstract. Spontaneous forms, plant motifs, animal silhouettes, and fragments of thought emerge in the moment, only to merge back together again in the next instant. Much like watching clouds in the sky, the compositions shift before the viewer’s eyes—her works remain an open invitation to personal associations and subtle emotions.
In the works of Katrina Pennington , each painting emerges from a visual experience that leaves a lasting impression. Photographs, memories, daydreams, and an admiration for other works of art merge into a desire to create a unique atmosphere on the canvas. Her process in the studio is one of gradual reduction, in which she strips forms down to their essence. Rather than following a fixed plan, she gives space to the image’s own impulses, allowing an interplay of control, letting go, and sheer visual delight to emerge.
Klara Landwehr creates fascinating visual worlds based on analog and digital collages made of paper, sketches, photographs, and AI-generated elements. As a master’s student at the renowned Düsseldorf Art Academy, she combines technical perfection in oil painting with conceptual clarity. Drawing from her visual archives of memories, she develops minimalist, atmospherically dense landscape compositions in which construction and intuition converge. Her timeless works invite viewers to look deeper and decipher their own narratives.
Dorothee Liebscher explores spaces and architecture on the canvas. In her multi-layered works, created using watery acrylics and dense oil paint, she strips built structures of their rigidity. The result is atmospheric, almost dreamlike places at the intersection of nostalgia and utopia, where external environments and inner sensations gently merge.
“Sweet Dreaming” brings together works that do not provide ready-made answers, but rather open up spaces for encounters, discoveries, and personal reflection.
