Photography and Recent German Art History

Recent German Art History

Four art venues, each with a history of its own, promise a journey through recent German art history. Bärbel Grässlin —based in Frankfurt since 1985—is exhibiting early, large-format color photographs by the artist Günther Förg, who passed away in 2013. These works were created in 1985 at Haus Lange and explore the motif of the window as an opening into space. At Galerie Hanna Bekker vom Rath, Frankfurt’s oldest gallery, features silkscreen prints and editions by the German Pop Art artist Wolfgang Oppermann (WOPP). In cooperation with the gallery on Brauchbachstraße, the saasfee*pavillon is presenting historical ensembles by his wife, the conceptual artist Anna Oppermann. DIE GALERIE invites visitors to take an artistic journey from Brandenburg to Dresden in the group exhibition “East German Art Landscapes.”

Lars Wiedemann, *Fragmente Berlin* (2022), DIE GALERIE – a multi-layered photo collage that breaks down urban architectural structures and reassembles them in a graphic, abstract manner.

Photography

The PANGALLERY is dedicating an exhibition titled *LichtBilder*to the postwar photographer Lothar Wolleh, showcasing rare abstract color works and iconic artist portraits of René Magritte, Joseph Beuys, and Günther Uecker. In the edition & galerie hoffmann , Anton Stankowski’s radically concrete visual worlds of the 1920s and 1930s meet the subtle postwar documentary photography of Abisag Tüllmann. The young photographers at the Leica Galerie, who portray influential figures of the Frankfurt music scene. This exhibition tour is complemented by the Sight Galerie (located within raumstation interior design), whose group exhibition ART x SPACE features the staged narrative spaces of Moritz Koch and the graphically abstracted architectural studies of René Spalek. Finally, the renowned Art Collection Deutsche Börse in Eschborn, which, as a leading international institution, presents contemporary photographic art with a strong focus on social and political issues.
